Kia Sorento: A Decade and a Half of History

The Kia Sorento has three generations of vehicles dating back to the 2003 model year. The Sorento was released in 2003 as a larger version of the Sportage. The Sorento was marketed as a value-priced vehicle with the same or better features when compared to other vehicles in the midsize SUV class, for which Kia is pretty well-known. This first generation Sorento received minor updates throughout its years, which include new trims and updated interior and exterior.

The second generation Sorento was completely redesigned and introduced to the North American market as the 2011 model year after a few years of absence. The reintroduction sparked an instance sales increase. Some of the changes within this generation included adding a third row to the SUV and adding a new, stronger engine to the Sorento. The interior also improved, receiving new updates and upgrades and the safety equipment has improved as well.

The newest Sorento is part of the third generation and it continues to be what it was in the first generation: a value-priced vehicle with features and amenities you'll find in other vehicles within its class. From year to year, Kia enhances the Sorento in one or many aspects and is one of the best sellers in Kia's lineup.
